Write like a pro blogger

Isn’t it great to sit down and write for your blog, or somebody else’s blog for that matter?  However, not just any writing will do.   You must keep in mind certain things that you would need to exercise in order to write like a pro blogger.

I will not kid you…

Blogging is far from easy, in fact, it is very hard to be successful at it, but it can be done.

It is painful when I read, or attempt to read some blogs.  They hurt my brain with all the spelling and grammatical errors they contain.  Not only that, but I have actually read blogs that had duplicate content, WITHIN THE SAME POST.  Now, was this a genuine mistake from the ‘author’, or was it a ‘deliberate mistake‘ in order to increase the word-count of the article?  I guess I’ll never know as I didn’t even bother to read the whole article.

There are several things you must keep in mind when you write a blog.

OK, fair enough, you can say that anyone can write a blog, and you’re perfectly right there.  It’s a bit like saying anyone can run.  However, the question arises about how many of the runners can run a marathon?

Are you a common blogger, or a pro?

Writers of blogs can be filtered out as either being either common writers or pro.

There are things which separate different bloggers from each other.  It’s not just the writing, the mistakes, or the style.

A common blogger will just write and write, most probably blindly, without taking particular attention to good SEO practices.  If you have in mind of ranking your blog, then you really do need to make sure that search engines find it.  If they can’t see what your content consists of, your hard work might not be found.

This is done by paying particular attention to your meta titles, as well as the meta description.  This also includes your Alt tags where images are concerned.

Another way is NOT to write like you’re writing for a search engine.  You should write for people, and give them a great user experience (UX).

The way you structure the article’s layout does play an important role in good SEO practices.  Also, don’t write long paragraphs.  One or two sentences are fine too.  But for the love of all that’s sacred, do not write a wall of words.  You have no idea just how quickly a potential reader will vanish from such a page.  And it would be a shame if this page was yours.

A very important thing when writing as a pro blogger is not to write rubbish.  Make your content shine and unique.  And make it in such a way that a reader will actually enjoy what you’ve written.  With that, they will be rearing to come back again for more.

Points to keep in mind when you write like a pro blogger

Keeping in touch with your readers through your email list with automated updates.  When you create a new post, it would be very productive to send your visitors an update on what’s going on.  You can send them a link to your latest article.

Comments are a huge contribution to keeping your blog alive.  Once your blog is open to comments, make sure you don’t end up being spammed as it will ruin your blog, as well as putting visitors off from enjoying their experience.  Through comments, you can have the opportunity of communicating with your readers and answering their comments with your own.  The longer and more frequent the comments, the better this is for your SEO.

Present a problem, usually at the beginning of the post, then carry on with a promise to solving it.  This sort of thing is known as a hook, where you literally ‘hook’ a reader out of curiosity to carry on reading your article.  You’ll have them wanting to either find out what happens, or how a problem is solved.

People love stories, so create a story in your blog and tap into your audience’s sentiments.  While facts bore the living daylights out of people, stories are captivating.  Captivate your audience, and convey the message your story is telling them.  This might be a product, a service, a problem solver, or whatever it might be.  The longer they are on your blog, the better your bounce rate, and the better your chances of making a sale

Oh, and your SEO will thank you for it.

…and there’s more about blogging like a pro.

Touch their personal side by talking with your audience, and not to them.  Invite them to participate by their asking questions.  This will make them feel their contributions are of value to you, which in fact they are.  You have to develop your instinct to actually listen to what your audience wants, and act on it accordingly.

Everybody loves to know things from facts, and statistics are what provides these facts.  It could be an Earth-shattering disaster in the happening, or loom and gloom on the horizon.  However, following this up with the proper statistics from reliable sources will cement your credibility in what you’re writing.  This will build your blog readership by making what you write irresistible, and leave people yearning to know more.

Quantity or quality is a question many tend to ask.  They are both important in their own way, but the quality is always superior to quantity.  Having said that, Google now expects a quality article to be over a thousand words long.  Research has it that a typical length for an article is about 1,900 words.  This is an important factor to keep in mind when starting up a blog.  Do not just start one about anything which you think will be great as you will have to keep on writing about it for quite a while.  That means that you should never come to a situation where you can’t find any more material to write about.

Sharing your content on Social Networks is a must to spread your wings.  You will reach people you never imagined, and these will come to realize that you exist.  If they find your content is worth their while, they will start following you.

…and there’s even more.

Guest Posting is also a very powerful way to spread your wings.  Writing articles, as a guest, on other blogging sites will increase your exposure, and your reach, which will, in turn, generate traffic, and if your blog is set up for monetization, it guest writing will also help you immensely from that aspect.  It is also brilliant where SEO is concerned as when you write on other websites,  you can get backlinks to your site, which will help with your ranking.

Monitor your blog’s response is vital to your keeping up with doing the necessary updates to it.  This is important to see if what you’ve written is being followed, or falling on deaf ears.  To check this out, you can use Google Analytics.  With this valuable tool from Google, you will be able to monitor your traffic, where it is coming from, how long it stays on your pages, and which pages are the most popular.  You will also know if you have repetitive visitors, as well as unique visitors.

Overall, Google Analytics shows you if your blog is a success, a failure, or if it needs more work put into it.
